“Once upon a writing task…” John Conniffe In this session we will explore and demonstrate ways to approach Cambridge Exam writing tasks through a set of communicative and learner-centred activities. While fun, engaging and promoting peer-learning and learner confidence, these activities will also aid exam candidates to develop their brainstorming skills, their awareness of the need for upgrading language and proof-reading and their competence with process writing.

John gained his CELTA qualification in 2006, and since then has taught in Germany, Ireland, Portugal and Poland. He is currently Senior Teacher at International House Toruń.

Exploiting the Internet for Cambridge exams Sandy Millin The Internet has a wealth of resources available to support teachers, but sometimes it can be challenging to know which websites are worth your time. She is passionate about professional development, and writes about it on her blog at http://sandymillin.wordpress.com . Cambridge English Exams – The Writing Paper Sometimes it can be hard to motivate our students to practise for the writing exam, or to find techniques we can use in lessons to make writing more engaging. In this session, we will look at activities you can use to help students generate ideas and use a wider range of language in the Cambridge First and Advanced writing exams, as well as different ways to give feedback on finished writing work.

Sandy Millin. Sandy has been the Director of Studies at International House Bydgoszcz since August 2015 and is also a CELTA tutor and Teacher Trainer. She has taught in many different countries (UK, Indonesia, Thailand, USA, Canada, Czech Republic, Ukraine, Paraguay), but particularly enjoys being in Central Europe. She tweets @sandymillin and blogs http://sandymillin.wordpress.com.

Brief history of Cambridge English Exams and new developments When was the Cambridge examination board established? How many candidates took the first Cambridge English: Proficiency? And why are Polish military pilots so significant to the development of Cambridge Exams? The session will provide answers to all those questions and show participants interesting facts from the history of Cambridge Exams. Coming back to the 21st century, there will be a part devoted to brand new developments from Cambridge English Language Assessment, including the Cambridge English Scale and several new websites which can help teachers to prepare their students for Cambridge English Exams.

Mariusz Prot. Consultant, Development Support Manager Central & Northern Poland Cambridge English Language Assessment

Cambridge English Exams – The Speaking Paper and other aspects of teaching speaking skills Getting students to talk in class can, at times, be an uphill battle. Every student acknowledges the importance of speaking, but they are often extremely reluctant to work on this skill in class. These sessions will examine the skill of speaking and why some students appear to be ‚blocked’ when it comes to communicating verbally. We will look at methods we can use to get our students to talk more. We will also discuss the speaking part of Cambridge English Exams: how to accurately assess our students, what skills are being tested and how to make speaking exam practice relevant, interesting and a little bit more realistic.

Matthew Sięgal. Matthew has been teaching English since 2009 and has worked as a teacher in schools, businesses and universities in Poland, Laos and the UK. Since 2014 he has worked as a Director of Studies of a summer language school in the United Kingdom. In addition to teaching, Matthew has worked as a Senior Teacher and Teacher Trainer. He has delivered training sessions to teaching professionals from a range of institutions and who deal with students from a variety of countries and backgrounds. Matthew is a native speaker of English who was born and grew up in the north west of England (UK) but he is in fact, through his parents, half Scottish and half American.

Teaching real skills or just exam techniques? One of the most satisfying things about preparing students for Cambridge exams is that almost all of the linguistic skills, study skills, and areas of language awareness needed to get a good grade are of genuine value to the effective communicator, the effective reader, and the effective learner. In this session we look at examples of this and how it can be used to positively affect what happens in the classroom. Tim Brombley. Over the past 21 years, Tim has worked as a teacher, examination course coordinator, FCE and CAE oral examiner and Director of Studies with International House, and as a teacher, curriculum designer, EFL coursebook writer and multimedia materials designer in the energy and oil industry.

Cambridge English Exams – The Speaking Paper The workshop will look at the speaking component of the most popular Cambridge Exams, focusing on the types of tasks, different aspects of the assessment process and their possible implications for teaching and exam preparation. We will also take a quick glance at FCE and CAE exam updates for 2015. Marek Mocny. Speaking Examiner and Teacher Trainer, Team Leader. Director of the private language school.

Mariusz Prot. Konsultant Cambridge English Language Assessment odpowiedzialny za doradztwo związane z przygotowaniem do Egzaminów Cambridge English i dobór odpowiednich materiałów.

Cambridge English: Young Learners – YLE. Starters, Movers, Flyers Metodyczne i merytoryczne założenia w procesie przygotowania do poszczególnych części Egzaminów YLE i zakres samych egzaminów. Dobór odpowiednich podręczników jako ważna pomoc i element w odniesieniu końcowego sukcesu. Luiza Wójtowicz-Waga. Nauczyciel języka angielskiego, trenerka Stowarzyszenia PASE i Cambridge University Press.
